The Best Bookstore(s) in Palm Springs and Union Square, SF

It turns out owning a bookstore is every bit as delightful as you might imagine!

My partner (and novelist) Paul Bradley Carr and I opened our first delightful bookstore with our kids in our part time home of Palm Springs in 2022., and our second one in downtown San Francisco in 2025. Both on Black Friday. Both with just a few months planning..

Why? The simple reason that there was no bookstore in Palm Springs and there was no bookstore in Downtown San Francisco. We’ve been richly rewarded with lots of love, in both locations, and we are thrilled to say our tiny chain of two stores and three employees (plus our dog) is one of the most profitable per square foot bookstores in America, with a thriving bulk sale business behind the scenes. We also do custom adult book fairs for companies. (Why should middle schoolers get all the fun?) There is no better feeling than putting the perfect read in someone’s hand before a day at the pool or after a long day of building the next disruptive technology.
