User Generated Book Tour: Four Slots Left!
Hey everyone. It's way too early and I'm way too sleepy at Yahoo about to head into makeup, but I wanted to give a quick update on the UGBT. It's coming along beautifully! With your help this is totally going to set a new precedent in how book tours are done. Too grand? Ok, it'll be fun for me to travel around and meet entrepreneurs outside the Valley.
Based on the feedback so far, I've selected these cities for sure:
Des Moines (tentatively: early aug)
Memphis (mid-sept)
Boston (mid-sept)
Portland
Seattle
Washington DC
Boulder is close...but I don't know enough about the entrepreneur scene there...more info please?
I want to go to Austin or Dallas, but not sure if I should do both. So one or both will be on the final list. I'd also like to hit another city in the Midwest but there hasn't been any big Des Moines-like groundswell of interest so far-- more one off suggestions that are hard to chose between. Midwestern Web folks....are you out there? As a commenter rightly pointed out in the previous post, I really should go to University of Illinois given how many people from the book did!
I'm also surprised I didn't get a bigger response from Atlanta. When I was a business reporter, Atlanta was all about trying to be the next Silicon Valley-- have entrepreneurial efforts waned that much?
We've got four slots left so let me know where I should my flight next! The next step will be figuring out what type of event to do in each city (reading? party? happy hour? round table of elevator pitches?) so if your city has been selected start thinking and commenting!
Oh- and Los Angeles people: I've got an event at Yahoo in Santa Monica July 8 so mark your calendars now!

New Book
An unforgettable portrait of the emerging world's entrepreneurial dynamos Brilliant, Crazy, Cocky is the story about that top 1% of people who do more to change their worlds through greed and ambition than politicians, NGOs and nonprofits ever can. This new breed of self-starter is taking local turmoil and turning it into opportunities, making millions, creating thousands of jobs and changing the face of modern entrepreneurship at the same time. To tell this story, Lacy spent forty weeks traveling through Asia, South America and Africa hunting down the most impressive up-and-comers the developed world has never heard of....yet.

Great! Looking forward to seeing you in DC! The Internet community is strong here, so I recommend doing an appearance in downtown DC (there are many folks more adept than I who can help you with that), as well as a reading at the AOL campus in Dulles, Virginia -- which I can help set up for you. You could probably do them both on the same day (AOL reading during the day, happy hour type event in DC that night). My uncle manages a hotel right near Dulles Airport, if you'd like some cheap lodgings. And I'd be happy to be your taxi, if you're flying in & out of Dulles.

Would be great if you came to Florida (Fort Lauderdale or Miami) - I'd come out for sure.
Cheers,

For info on the robust entrepreneurial scene in Boulder, start with www.techstars.org and go from there.

Awesome! See you in Seattle, and feel free to hit me up if you need any help getting things organized and promoted up here.

Austin would be a good choice - lots of tech-savvy entrepreneurs there. There was a time when Austin aspired to be the next Silicon Valley but I think that ambition has since waned.
I'm sure Dallas has a good community there, but have you considered Houston? I think Houston embodies that entrepreneurial Texas spirit better than any other city. It's an energy and medicine town for sure, but definitely has that can-do spirit.

You should visit Indianapolis Indiana. Its a growing city and I would assume that people would flock to you and your ideas.
Speaking of ideas I wonder if I could run a few of my own by you. I tend to come up with many, but trying to decide which one is most plausible.

I am SO happy that Seattle is on this list. I just finished your book (loved it!) and I can't wait for the UGBT to come here. If you need help promoting in Seattle, I am your girl!

Washington DC W00T!
You'll love it. Last night we turned out 400+ people to party with Robert Scoble and Gary Vaynerchuk. I'm sure you'd draw as equally big of a crowd for some type of party or event.
Boulder has a really cool tech scene. I'd recommend going there. If you're looking for some connections, I'd be happy to introduce you to some folks.

Oh what a lovely coincidence. Today we announced http://twintech.eventbrite.com here in DC, and Mr. Gruber tells me that's the very day you're going to be in town!
