ZAPPOS! CEO SPEAKS!
After the crazy-enthusiastic response I got to this post, I've decided to always write ZAPPOS! instead of Zappos. I also decided to do a few interviews with CEO Tony Hsieh for TechTicker. Here's the first piece. I'm still not sure the economics of ZAPPOS! will work long term, but I give Tony a lot of credit for following his own vision and not giving into the capital-efficiency craze. (And my husband is buying some shoes right now...) At least he's building something interesting which is more than I can say for a lot of me-too Web companies. More segments on TechTicker today.
Enjoy!

New Book
An unforgettable portrait of the emerging world's entrepreneurial dynamos Brilliant, Crazy, Cocky is the story about that top 1% of people who do more to change their worlds through greed and ambition than politicians, NGOs and nonprofits ever can. This new breed of self-starter is taking local turmoil and turning it into opportunities, making millions, creating thousands of jobs and changing the face of modern entrepreneurship at the same time. To tell this story, Lacy spent forty weeks traveling through Asia, South America and Africa hunting down the most impressive up-and-comers the developed world has never heard of....yet.

Top notch stuff ... keep these video interviews coming. I'm writing a blog profile on Zappos right now, mainly because they're so customer-centric, and the CEO is actually accessible via Twitter. It's worth the time to go through their website and check out the quirky blog posts and in-house videos. And they have a page that shows every employee that's on Twitter, which is something like 325. It even ranks them. The CEO has become an evangelist for Twitter, as he's figured out it's helping him connect with consumers in a surprisingly transparent, fun and intimate way.
I hope their biz model works, because they're going the extra six miles to please the customer. Imagine if a phone company decided to have that attitude???
