Sarah's Next Trip?

It's a few months off whatever it is. I have to madly promote my book and put in some video-face time at Yahoo before they fire me or realize how much they don't really need me! But I'm getting a lot of emails about places I should travel to next. What's an emerging center of innovation you guys would want to hear more about? Are we all sick of stories about India? Is there somewhere better than China in Asia? What about South Africa? Paul Carr and I are discussing a joint-reading in London....maybe a jaunt over to Ireland?

I'm looking for real centers of cultural entrepreneurship, not so much places where the U.S. offloads R&D.

Lemme know in the comments!

Sarah,
you should check out South Afria. Saul Klein from Index would agree...We recently setup the main part of our operations in Cape Town. It's less expensive, on the same time zone as Europe and you can get well educated employees and smart developers. It's also interesting how the tech industry is playing a role in the changes that are pushing South Africa forward post apartheid.

I think you should check out French. I know lots of interesting web 2.0 companies based there, it should be great experience for you, and you can definitely promote your book there!

Needless to say, you're welcome here again now that you're healthy...
also, you should check out Turkey (on your way to Israel) - some stuff going on there as well.

i'm leaned towards south africa. we might have another gov't sponsored traveling geeks trip there. but i keep hearing south africa is way more dangerous than israel-- true?

Sarah,

What stories about India made you sick? How many Indian startups/entrepreneurs have you come across so far?

If you have dont have convincing answers for the above two, then definitely be prepared to plan your trip to India. Apparently, scoble has agreed. You and Mike are next in my radar for an open invitation :)

@prabhu: no nothing made me sick about india-- i just mean there's been a lot of overkill reporting on it over the last few years. i have met a lot of indian entrepreneurs and investors but mostly ones who've relocated to the valley. I definitely want to come!! just weighing if it's the next trip or not. . .

@Sarah

Nice to hear that. Would appreciate if India makes it on your next trip. I missed meeting you over here in London. Saw your post just after you left. But I am sure, in this small world, we both would end up meeting sometime :)

Keep doing the good stuff. And best wishes for your book. Would love to pick it up here in UK. Any idea about the launch date?
